Nominated for two Golden Globes and winning a BAFTA for Bill Nighy as Best Performance for an Actor in a Supporting Role, Love Actually was directed and written by Richard Curtis. The story follows the lives of eight couples who fall in and out of love around Christmas in contemporary London. Colin Firth stars as Jamie Bennett, Liam Neeson as Daniel, Emma Thompson as Karen, Kris Marshall as Colin Frissell, Keira Knightly as Juliet, Martine McCutcheon as Natalie and Hugh Grant as The Prime Minister. Popular TV presenters Ant and Dec, who play themselves, make appearances as does Michael Parkinson; Rowan Atkinson plays Rufus the jewellery salesman. With a budget of $45 million, the film grossed over $247 million worldwide. It was generally well received in the UK, but not so in the US.
