Nominated for a BAFTA and directed by Michael Caton-Jones the story was based on the 1944 documentary directed by William Wyler entitled Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress and tells the tale of the final mission in a tour of 25 of an American B-17 bomber called Memphis Bell. The mission is to bomb a factory in Bremen in Germany but the crew are nervous that they are not going to make it home as this is their final tour having completed a total of 24. Matthew Modine stars as Captain Dennis Dearborn, Eric Stoltz as Sergeant ‘Danny Boy’ Daly and John Lithgow as Lt. Colonel Bruce Derringer; Harry Connick, Jr makes his first big screen performance as Sergeant Clay Busby.
