Printer friendly version >
Based on the books by Caroline Graham and originally adapted for the screen by Anthony Horowitz for ITV, the first series of this popular crime drama screened in 1997. John Nettles plays Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby based at Causton CID who sets out to solve the various murders that take place in Midsomer, a fictional rather wealthy English county. Initially his side kick is Detective Sergeant (DS) Gavin Troy (Daniel Casey) who is replaced later in the series by DS Dan Scott (John Hopkins) and then by DS Ben Jones (Jason Hughes). Joyce Barnaby (Jane Wymark) is his ever supporting wife and Cully (Laura Howard) his only child; Cully often turns up rather unexpectedly in the middle of Barnaby’s investigations. In addition to the locations listed The Ashridge Estate may also have been used for filming as well as Little Gaddesden, Bulbourne and Hadley Wood in Hertfordshire, but we have no scene or episode confirmation.
