The character of Miss Jane Marple was created by crime novelist, Agatha Christie. Created by ITV television, the first series was broadcast from 1984 to 1992 and featured Joan Hickson as Miss Marple with all twelve novels dramatised for the small screen. From 2004 a further series of Miss Marple was commissioned by ITV with Geraldine McEwan cast as Miss Jane Marple (nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 2005). In ‘4.50 from Paddington’ directed by Andy Wilson, Elspeth McGillicuddy (Pam Ferris) boards the 4.50 pm train from Paddington Station to visit Miss Marple in St Mary Mead when she believes she sees a murder on the journey, but there is no corpse and no-one is reported missing. Miss Marple is intrigued and sets out to investigate the Crackenthorpe family at Rutherford Hall who seem to be implicated. The all star cast includes Griff Rhys Jones (Dr Quimper), Michael Landes (Bryan Eastley), David Warner (Luther Crackenthorpe) and Rob Brydon (Inspector Awdry).
