Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger this lavish film musical version of the opera 'Die Fledermaus' by Johann Strauss was based at ABPC Elstree Studios in Borehamwood. The film was adapted for the screen and set in post-war Vienna and tells the tale of an American, Captain Alfred Westerman (Mel Ferrer), who decides to play a joke on the British Colonel, Eisenstein (Michael Redgrave) and his wife, Rosalinda (Ludmilla Tcherina). Despite the strong cast, which also included Anthony Quayle (General Orlovsky) and Anton Walbrooke (Dr Falke), Oh… Rosalinda! was not a box office success.
