The BAFTA award-winning Poirot is largely filmed in and around London. Produced by ITV, the series first appeared on screens in 1989, and is based on Agatha Christie's Belgian detective series. Starring David Suchet as Hercule Poirot each episode has a different plot necessitating the solving of mysterious and often complex murders. Many critics believe Suchet’s characterisation of Poirot has been the closest to date of the character portrayed in Christie’s novels. Recurring cast members include Hugh Fraser (Captain Hastings), Philip Jackson (Chief Inspector Japp), David Yelland (George) and Zoe Wannamaker (Ariadne Oliver). The series has also attracted other leading actors including Christopher Eccleston, Hermione Norris, Damian Lewis, Emily Blunt and Edward Fox.
