Produced for ITV series 2 filmed on location in the East of England with direction from Peter Lydon and Fraser Macdonald. The series is based on the blog and books written under the name of “Belle de Jour” and adapted for the screen by Lucy Prebble. The plot tells the tale of a Hannah Baxter, both a university graduate and a high class call girl known as Belle (Billie Pipper). Based in London, the series revolves around the complexities of both Hannah’s professional and private life and her friendship with Ben (Iddo Goldberg) and Bambi (Ashley Madekwe). In Series 2, Hannah explores the possibility of a chest enhancement and begins to date Alex (Callum Blue) who is not aware of her secret life. As her feelings for Alex deepen, Hannah begins to find her professional life a struggle. Series 2 also presented the crew with complications as Billie Pipper was pregnant. A number of scenes therefore necessitated the use of body doubles. Toyah Willcox plays Gail in Episode 1. Secret Diary of a Call Girl was generally well received as a witty drama, although not particularly by some feminists. Series 3 has shot at Elstree Studios but is yet to be screened.
