Some interior scenes depicted at Norland were shot at a privately owned house in Hertfordshire near The Red Lion Pub and Great Gaddesden. Meanwhile the Dashwoods are offered a cottage by Sir John Middleton (Mark Williams) on his estate in Devonshire, Barton Park (not located in the East of England) where they are introduced to Colonel Brandon (David Morrissey). Whilst not verified some interior shots for Barton Park may have been at the private house near Great Gaddesden which was also used for a scenes at Mrs Jennings' (Linda Bassett) London home when she invited Elinor and Marianne Dashwood (Charity Wakefield) to accompany her.

Declared a compelling and exciting BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, a privately owned house in Hertfordshire near Potters Bar plays the Dashwood family home of Norland. Despite promising his father that his step-mother and half-sisters would be well provided for following his death, John Dashwood (Mark Gatiss) is subsequently influenced by his wife Fanny (Claire Skinner) not to adhere to his father's wishes. Prior to the Dashwoods leaving the family home, Edward Ferrars (Dan Stevens), Fanny's brother, meets Elinor Dashwood (Hattie Morahan) and forms an association.
