Directed by acclaimed filmmaker, Guy Ritchie with screenplay by Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham and Simon Kinberg, this Oscar nominated action adventure mystery finds Detective Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his loyal partner Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) battling with a force that threatens the whole country. Adapted from the author Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional character, the year is 1891. Holmes is called upon to do battle both with his intellect and his fighting skills to bring down a new nemesis in the form of Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong), a satanic lord. Rachel McAdams plays Irene Adler, Kelly Reilly plays Mary, Watsons’ love interest and James Fox plays Sir Thomas. The 2010 Oscar nomination was for Best Score by Hans Zimmer and Best Art Direction.

Hatfield House >
Whilst location filming took place in and around Manchester, London, Liverpool and New York, Hatfield House was also used. Hatfield’s Long Gallery appears briefly in the trailer. Other scenes cannot be verified until the film’s release. Interestingly during the filming of these sequences the press got word of the marriage breakdown of Guy Ritchie and Madonna which resulted in a significant amount of journalistic interest. Fortunately the quick response of security personnel meant that the film schedule was not compromised.
