St Trinian's
Printer friendly version >
This is the 6th film to have been produced following the success of the first four feature films produced in the 1950s and 1960s; the 1980’s The Wildcats of St Trinian’s was not deemed successful. St Trinian’s is based on the work by cartoonist, Ronald Searle (born in Cambridge) who, during World War II, stayed at the house of Cecily Johnson. Cecily attended St Trinnean’s School for Girls in Edinburgh and after being told about the ‘activities’ at the school, Searle began drawing the cartoons that would ultimately create St Trinian’s in his novels, a school for rather uncontrollable young ladies that encouraged self-expression and creative freedom. St Trinian’s cast included Rupert Everett (Miss Camilla Fritton, the headmistress and Carnaby Friton, her brother), Colin Firth (Geoffrey Thwaites, the Education Minister), Russell Brand (Flash Harry), Celia Imrie (Matron) and Stephen Fry who played himself. Filming took place on the A1 dual carriage way, but the precise location has not been verified.
