The Bourne Ultimatum is the third film in the Jason Bourne series to have been brought to screen based on the books written by Robert Ludlum. It was the last Bourne novel to be written by Ludlum but like The Bourne Supremacy, the second in the series, The Bourne Ultimatum has a different plot from that of the novel. Directed by Paul Greengrass renegade secret agent Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) continues to suffer from amnesia and attempt to unlock the secret of his identity whilst being earnestly pursued by the CIA. On its release in the US the film grossed $69.3 million on its opening weekend which, at that time, made is the highest grossing August opening in the States. It was the only film in the Bourne series to have been Oscar nominated winning all three of its nominations. The Bourne Ultimatium was based at Pinewood Studios but used locations around the world including Tangier, Paris, Berlin (double for Moscow), Madrid (double for Turin and itself), New York and London. Whilst Matt Damon said he would not be interested in a fourth Bourne film, in October 2008 it was announced that filming for the next in the series would begin in 2010 with Damon and Greengrass attached.
