The award-winning Golden Bowl was nominated for the Golden Palm award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000. Based on the 1904 novel by Henry James, the story explores the inter-relationships between father and daughter and their partners introducing the complexities of both marriage and adultery. Adam Verver (Nick Nolte), a wealthy American billionaire living in London idolises his daughter Maggie (Kate Beckinsale) who marries Prince Amerigo (Jeremy Northam). Prince has however married her for money not love and is having a relationship with Maggie’s friend, Charlotte (Uma Thurman). The film adaptation differs from the book although the critically acclaimed television series produced in 1972 was more faithful to the storyline and the characters. The Golden Bowl shot on location in Leicestershire, London and Italy in addition to the East of England.
