Hole, The
Printer friendly version >
Directed by Nick Hamm, this psychological drama was based on the novel by Guy Burt entitled After the Hole with screenplay by Ben Court. The plot has 4 pupils at an English private school locked in a disused underground bomb shelter for 18 days, but Liz (Thora Birch) is the only one who emerges. She is subsequently interviewed by a psychiatrist Dr Phillippa Horwood (Embeth Davidtz) and recounts her interpretation of what happened. She tells the doctor that she loved one of the pupils in the shelter, Mike (Desmond Harrington) and had enlisted the help of her friend, Martyn (Daniel Brocklebank) to allow them to spend time together. Martyn takes Mike, Geoff (Laurence Fox), Frankie (Keira Knightly) and Liz to a disused shelter to hide out so they do not have to go on the forthcoming school trip. Martyn allegedly shuts them all inside, but Dr Horwood is not convinced of Liz’ account for what transpired next.
