Legendary director, Terrence Malick's Oscar nominated epic tale of adventure and romance begins in Virginia in 1607. The film is based on actual historical events and public records, although dialogue, some events and certain characterizations were created. The story finds Captain Will Smith (Colin Farrell) falling in love with a Native American princess, Pocahontas (Q'orianka Kilcher). Believing him to be dead, she meets and marries John Rolfe (Christian Bale). Due to Rolfe's success as a tobacco planter, his status in society and the legendary beauty of Pocahontas, they are invited to England by the King James (Jonathan Pryce) and Queen Anne (Alexandra Malick).

The splendour of The Marble Hall made a perfect backdrop for the scene where Pocahontas is presented to the King and Queen. The house and a number of garden scenes were also filmed on the Hatfield Estate. In one scene Captain John Smith arrives on horseback via the deer park at the rear entrance to the house in a bid to see Pocahontas again. They take a walk in the gardens stopping at a summer house with the magnificence of the house in the distance. Another scene finds Pocahontas playing with her young son in the grounds with the Old Palace as a backdrop prior to the decision to return to Virginia.
