Due to the popularity of this 17-episode series which was broadcast in 1967/68, The Prisoner has generated a number of spin-offs including novels, comic books and computer games. The plot focuses around a British secret agent who resigns from service, is subsequently kidnapped and taken to a secret location in a remote seaside village where he is stripped of his identity and subjected to psychological torture over an extended period. The Prisoner stars Patrick McGoohan as Prisoner Number 6. McGoohan and George Markstein were also the creators of the series. The opening and closing sequences have since become iconic and it has never been confirmed as to whether the series ended by mutual agreement or was cancelled. The interiors were shot at the MGM British Studios in Borehamwood.

    In Episode 13, Do Not Foresake Me Oh My Darling the writers contrive to have the mind of Number 6 implanted into another man. McGoohan therefore only appears in this episode for a few minutes which enables him to work on the filming of Ice Station Zebra which was shooting on location in the US. The escape sequence is shot at this location.
