Directed by Alan Gibson with filming at EMI MGM Studios in Borehamwood and set in the 1970s, Count Dracula (Christopher Lee) is ‘undead’ in London and posing as a reclusive property tycoon who plans to annihilate the human race with bubonic plague. Scotland Yard hires an expert vampire researcher, Professor Lorrimer Van Helsing (Peter Cushing), who is a direct descendent of the legendary vampire hunter, to investigate. Joanna Lumley plays Jessica Van Helsing. Don Houghton, who had been associated with Dr Who for many years, wrote the screenplay and this was to be the 7th to have Christopher Lee in the lead role. It was however the last to feature to Cushing and Lee playing opposite each other.
