Directed by Gerald Thomas, this romantic comedy was based on a story by Kay Bannerman and adapted for the screen by Leslie Bricusse. It was released in the US as The Swinging Maiden and tells the tale of an American Airline owner, Paul Fisher (Alan Hale, Jr.) who is set on buying a new British passenger plane from Sir Giles Thompson (Cecil Parker), but problems arise when Thompson’s designer, Jack Hopkins (Michael Craig) and Fisher’s daughter, Kathy (Anne Helm) get off to a poor start when she crashes into his prize traction engine, The Iron Maiden. The damage means he cannot drive it solo in the forthcoming Woburn Abbey steam rally so he must have a co-driver to take part. Paul Fisher comes to the rescue and Jack enters the rally. Roland Culver plays Lord Upshott and Joan Sims plays Nellie Trotter. It was the first film to cast the now well-known actor, John Standing (Humphrey Gore-Brown).
