Based on the novel by Thomas Hardy with direction from Nicholas Laughland and adapted for the screen by Ashley Pharoah, this made for television BBC drama tells the tale of a beautiful young school teacher, Fancy Day (Keeley Hawes) who is courted by three different men in a small village during the 19th century. The leading contender seems to be the wealthy Mr Shiner (Steve Pemberton) but Dick Dewy (James Murray) and Parson Maybold (Ben Miles) are also keen to be considered as her future husband.
