This television adaption of Jean Rhys’ novel written by Stephen Greenhorn and produced by the BBC was a prequel to Charlotte Bronte’s, Jane Eyre. It is largely set in Jamaica and finds a young Edward Rochester (Rafe Spall) entering into an arranged marriage with a beautiful Creole heiress, Antoinette Crosway (Rebecca Hall). Only after their marriage does he learn of the madness that afflicted her mother and now appears to be affecting her too. As a result they return to England.
