Nominated for a Golden Globe Brian Gilbert’s Wilde is the story of playwright Oscar Wilde's (Stephen Fry) tempestuous affair with Lord Alfred Douglas (Jude Law), whose family causes Wilde's fall from grace. The film has an all star cast including Vanessa Redgrave (Lady Speranza Wilde), Jennifer Ehle (Constance Lloyd Wilde), Michael Sheen (Robbie Ross), Zoe Wannamaker (Ada Leverson), Tom Wilkinson (Marquess of Queensbury) and Ioan Gruffudd (John Gray); Orlando Bloom appeared as a rent boy which was his very first appearance on screen. The storyline is based on the Pullitzer Prize-winning 1989 biography of Oscar Wilde by Richard Ellmann and the film was well received by both audiences and critics alike.
