Also known as The Adventures of William Tell, this black and white made for television family adventure was created by Friedrich Schiller for ITV. It ran for 1 series of 39 episodes and during that time had a variety of different production crew assigned to it, including various directors. Set in 14th Century Switzerland, it tells the tale of the legendary hero, William Tell (Conrad Phillps) and his numerous adventures as he resists Austrian rule and upholds the rights of peasants against Landburgher Gessler (Willoughby Goddard). There were a number of guest appearances including Michael Caine as Maximus (5th and 29th episodes), Christopher Lee as the hunter (episode 21), Sid James as Schaffer (episode 3), John Le Messurier as the Duke of Burgundy (episode 26), Warren Mitchell as one of the Black Brothers, Carlo (episode 32) and Donald Pleasance as the Spider (episode 37). Filming took place at the former National Studios which had been located in Borehamwood.
